Gifts from Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) offer many advantages to the donor. You may open a DAF with a sponsoring organization, such as a community foundation or the philanthropic branch of a financial institution. You will receive an immediate tax-deduction for your contributions to the DAF and can subsequently recommend grants from the fund to qualified nonprofits, 501(c)(3) organizations such as Grand Traverse Heritage Council. Your contributions to a DAF are invested and grow tax-free, allowing you to make the most of your money when supporting charitable institutions.
If you are 70½ or older, you can make tax-free charitable contributions to the Grand Traverse Heritage Council directly from your IRA. Known as qualified charitable distributions (QCDs), these payouts are excluded from IRA withdrawals that are otherwise reported as taxable income.
Additionally, once you’ve reached age 73, you must take an annual required minimum distribution (RMD) from your IRA. A QCD gift to Grand Traverse Heritage Council can satisfy some or all of your RMD requirements, supporting our work while helping you avoid taxes or penalties.
Making a planned gift is a wonderful way to support the Grand Traverse Heritage Council while also accommodating your own personal, financial, estate-planning, and philanthropic goals. We invite you to consult with your financial advisor.
